Originally designed for the new Mutthorn Hut in the Bernese Alps, the Mutthorn chair by Panter&Tourron revisits the heritage of Swiss alpine seating through the craftsmanship and manufacturing history of Horgenglarus. Designed by ARC1706, the new hut provided the starting point for a chair defined by simplicity, durability and everyday use.

Rather than revisiting the traditional Stabelle, Panter&Tourron looked at another familiar presence in Swiss mountain interiors: the classic bentwood bistro chair. For generations, these simple and durable chairs—including many Horgenglarus models—have furnished chalets, restaurants and mountain refuges, often remaining in continuous use for decades.

Mutthorn brings together characteristic elements from the Horgenglarus vocabulary in a contemporary construction. A generous round seat recalls early twentieth-century models, while substantial square-section legs reference another element of the manufacturer’s heritage. The rear legs extend into a steam-bent backrest, creating a continuous structure and distinctive silhouette. Generous proportions are balanced by a compact footprint suited to residential and contract environments.
